How to choose the right hair fibre shade

Even the best fibres will not convince if the colour is off. Here is how to match yours in a few simple steps.

Choosing the right shade is the most important step to a natural result. When the colour is right, the fibres bond to each strand and create the look of fuller, thicker coverage with no visible contrast between your hair and the fibres. The good news is that getting it right is simple with a little guidance.

Step 1: Match to your root colour

Always match fibres to the colour of your roots, not the ends. Roots tend to be darker and set the base shade that frames your whole look. Matching there is what makes the coverage blend where it matters most.

Step 2: Allow for natural variation

Hair is rarely one flat colour. It usually has subtle highlights and undertones, lighter and darker patches. If you are torn between two shades, go with the slightly darker one. It gives better coverage and looks more natural once it is blended in.

Step 3: Adjust for greys

If you have some grey, the best approach depends on the look you want. To keep a natural salt and pepper effect, pick a shade close to your natural darker colour and let the greys show through. If you want fuller coverage, choose a tone that matches your dyed or intended colour to mask the greys.

Step 4: Check it in the light

Hair reads differently in daylight than under indoor lighting. Check your colour in natural light as well as artificial light so you get a true sense of which tone will look most accurate across the day.

Step 5: Blend if you need to

For highlighted or multi tonal hair, the best result can come from blending two shades. A base shade with a lighter or darker tone on top can recreate natural highlights and add depth.

Densifol comes in ten shades chosen to cover the most common natural colours, from black through to grey and white. Each one is designed to blend seamlessly, and because it is premium keratin, it reflects light like real hair. Still unsure?
